Welcome to Vishranthi Nilayam, a sacred haven of peace and rest, deeply rooted in the rich heritage of the Church of South India (CSI). Originally established by the Church of England Zenana Mission (CEZM), this historic property at 18 Infantry Road was purchased by Ms. Anna Smith in 1903 and gifted to the CEZM Society in 1908. Later, it was transferred to the Church of South India Trust Association to further the mission of empowering women within the CSI.
On November 15, 1949, Vishranthi Nilayam was dedicated as the Women’s House of the Church of South India by Bishop Gurushantha, the first Bishop of the Mysore Diocese. This marked the beginning of its journey as a spiritual and organizational center for women’s work in the Church.
Inspired by the visionary leadership of Late Deaconess Carol Graham, a devoted member of the Church of England, Vishranthi Nilayam became a catalyst for women’s active participation in Church and community life. Her prayerful efforts led to the founding of the CSI Women’s Fellowship in 1948 and the establishment of the Order of Sisters in 1952.
Today, Vishranthi Nilayam serves as the Mother House for the CSI Order of Sisters, the headquarters of the CSI Women’s Fellowship, and a nurturing home for women across the Church. It is a place where Sisters gather for retreats, conferences, and spiritual renewal, and where Senior Sisters are lovingly cared for in their golden years.
Vishranthi Nilayam continues to honor its legacy as a sanctuary of peace, a center of empowerment, and a beacon of faith. It stands as a testament to the enduring vision of its founders and the unwavering commitment of the Sisters who serve the Lord with dedication, courage, and love.
Join us in celebrating the legacy and mission of Vishranthi Nilayam, where faith, fellowship, and service come together to inspire and transform lives.
